TROUBLESHOOTING
If the Art Conductor object in Metagrid Pro is not showing the articulations of the currently selected track in Logic Pro, follow these steps:
• Read the setup procedure again and confirm that all settings are correct. Especially the MIDI settings in Logic Pro need to be set as specified.
• Make sure you are running the latest version of Metagrid Pro and Metaserver
• In MetaServer -> Setup -> Network, disable 'USB connection only'
• An Art Conductor articulation set is loaded for the Instrument track in Logic Pro
• The 'Track' panel in the Inspector is visible. The Inspector is the panel left of the tracks area. It normally contains a 'Region' and a 'Track' panel. Both these panels can be collapsed. If the 'Track' panel is collapsed, uncollapse it.
If MetaGrid Pro doesn’t show the articulation switches of Art Conductor sets, it means that the Art Conductor database hasn’t been imported correctly. Please follow these steps:
- Confirm that the Art Conductor Logic folder has been installed in '~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Articulation Settings', and that it contains the 'Art Conductor.artcon' file
- In the PlugTools Art Conductor preferences, make sure that the path to Art Conductor is correct and 'Connect to Metagrid' is enabled
- Open the 'Articulation Sets' window in PlugTools. If there are no Artconductor Pro articulation sets, then the database was not imported
- Click the 'Rescan' button to force PlugTools to rescan the Articulation Settings folder
If the Art Conductor object in Metagrid Pro is showing only the basic layout, this means that PlugTools has imported the Art Conductor articulations as ‘custom user’ articulations.
This occurs when the path to the Art Conductor folder is not matching the path in the Preferences of PlugTools.
If selecting an articulation in MetaGrid Pro has no effect in Logic Pro, please follow these steps:
- After selecting an articulation in MetaGrid Pro, it will only change in the Logic Pro when you play a note. When you have notes selected in the Piano Roll or Score editor, the change will be immediate.
- Confirm that all settings are correct in Logic Pro and PlugTools, using the setup procedure on this page. Take extra care in setting the MIDI options in Logic Pro as described.
- Open the Art Conductor preferences in PlugTools and test the connection between PlugTools and Logic Pro
- Also, test the connection between PlugTools and MetaGrid Pro
Certain virtual instruments or Kontakt libraries require additional setup for Art Conductor. Please check the Art Conductor support page for additional information.
If the articulation of notes in the Piano Roll or Score window is not changing when you select an articulation in MetaGrid Pro, make sure that the local inspector in the Piano Roll or Score window is visible.
You can make the local inspector visible from the 'View' menu in the top left of each window.
The local inspector shows the articulation setting, which PlugSearch operates on to edit the articulation of selected notes.
To fix this, click the title of the track in the Inspector -> Tracks pane. Change that name to whatever you like, just make sure it is different for each track. This will trigger PlugTools to update MetaGrid Pro. This will only work if you change the name in the Inspector, changing it in the track header will not work.
The '.artcon' file is the database that comes with Art Conductor 9 and later, and is required for the integration between PlugTools and MetaGrid Pro.
If you are not using MetaGrid Pro with Art Conductor, disable 'Connect to MetaGrid Pro' in the preferences of PlugTools.
If you are using MetaGrid Pro with Art Conductor, make sure the '.artcon' file is located inside the 'Art Conductor Logic' folder.
If PlugTools can't find all the articulations in ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Articulation Settings, check the following:
- The folder ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Articulation Settings has read permissions for the primary user
- The folder doesn't contain aliases or symbolic links
- Custom or modified Art Conductor articulation sets are not placed within the Art Conductor folder
You can force a full rescan of the Articulation Settings folder. Open the 'Articulation Sets' window, and click the 'Rescan' button
REQUIREMENTS
Art Conductor Remote lets you control articulations in Logic Pro with your tablet running MetaGrid Pro. It removes the need for key switches. Instead the selected articulation is part of the notes, which makes transposing, playback and changing articulations much easier.
For Art Conductor Remote the following is required:
Art Conductor for Logic
And a tablet that is compatible with MetaGrid Pro.
METAGRID PRO SETUP
In Metagrid Pro, create a grid and insert the Art Conductor object. In MetaServer (running on your computer), go to 'Setup' -> 'Network' and disable 'USB Connection Only'
LOGIC PRO SETUP
Open Logic Pro and go to Settings > General > MIDI.
Confirm that:
MIDI Remote is 'On' and set to 'Global'
Next, go to Logic Pro > Settings > MIDI -> Inputs.
Make sure PlugTools is enabled as MIDI input.
PLUGTOOLS SETUP
Open the PlugTools Preferences and switch to the Art Conductor tab, and check that:
- The path directs to the Art Conductor Logic folder. This folder must contain the 'Art Conductor.artcon' file
- 'Connect to Metagrid Pro' is enabled
PERFORM TEST
To check if the system is set up correctly, follow these steps:
- Open Metagrid Pro and select the grid with the Art Conductor Object.
- Make sure PlugTools is running and has finished scanning the Art Conductor database. You can check this by opening the Articulation Sets window from the PlugTools drop down menu. It should list all the Art Conductor articulation sets, which are marked by the Babylon Waves logo. When you select an articulation set, the individual articulations should be listed in the bottom table, see image below.
- Create a new project in Logic Pro, and create a few tracks with instruments for which articulation sets are supported by Art Conductor, for instance CineSamples Strings
- In the Inspector, click the Articulation Set button and load the articulation set that corresponds with the instrument.
When you now switch to a track in Logic Pro, Metagrid Pro will update the Art Conductor content with the articulations belonging to the selected instrument. You can now select an articulation in Metagrid Pro, and the next notes you play will use that articulation
